BOXER DOGS

We pride ourselves on producing quality, well-bred pups from well-bred dogs. We have done everything we can to ensure none of our pups suffers any inherited defects.

The Siacybox affix is relatively new, first registered in 2004 after our first litter of puppies

'Siacybox' comes from a combination of our names, Simon and Tracy.

We had our first boxer dog in 1999, but sadly, she died due to kidney failure in 2001.

Because we are a small breeder, we can divide our time equally between all our dogs, in fact we spend more time and money on our dogs than we do on ourselves, (which is how it should be).

From the beginning, Tracy and I have been fortunate enough to meet a number of established breeders, who understood our desires and who gave us invaluable assistance, information and guidance.

We hope these breeders/friends will see their contributions and help are put to good use, now and in the future.

Our biggest interest in dogs lies within the show ring. Even though we have not won very much as yet, we enjoy the challenge of competition and believe that our dogs do, too.

We are a member of the Northern Boxer Club, which meets once a month in Sheffield. A link to their site can be found on the links page, along with many other links including some with general dog information and others with specific boxer sites.

We hope you enjoy our Boxer website, where you can view our dogs, find information about Boxers, maybe even send us an email!

Keep checking back as we hope to update on a regular basis.

History of the Boxer

The ancestors of this breed were the German Bullenbeisser, a dog of Mastiff descent, and the English Bulldog. The Bullenbeisser had been working as a hunting dog for centuries, employed in the pursuit of bear, wild boar, and deer. Its task was to seize the prey and hold it until the hunters arrived. In later years, faster dogs were favoured and the Bullenbeisser grew smaller and was then called the Brabanter. In the late 19th century, the Brabanter was crossed with an English Bulldog to start the line that would become the modern Boxer. In 1894, three Germans by the name of Roberth, Konig, and Hopner decided to stabilise the breed and put it on exhibition at a dog show. This was done in Munich in 1895, and the next year they founded the first Boxer Club. The breed was introduced to other parts of Europe in the late 1800s and to the United States around the turn of the century. The American Kennel Club (AKC) recognised the first Boxer champion in 1915. During World War I, the Boxer was co-opted for military work, acting as a valuable messenger dog, pack-carrier, attack dog, and guard dog. It was not until after World War II that the Boxer became popular around the world. Boxer mascots, taken home by returning soldiers, introduced the dog to a much wider audience and it soon became a favourite as a companion animal, as a show dog, and as a guard dog..The name "Boxer" is supposedly derived from this breed of dog beginning a fight by standing on its two hind legs and "boxing" with it's two front legs.
